A UK No.2 hit is the biggest selling single of 2010 – so far. Eminem’s duet with Rihanna only made it to the runner-up spot and falls to No.11 in its 15th week. Trailing Yolanda Be Cool & Dcup’s “We No Speak Americano” this summer, the rapper never managed to reach the top. But in the long run, “Love the Way You Lie” has grown to become the biggest selling hit of the year.
This is the UK year to date singles chart per 04/10/2010
1. Eminem feat. Rihanna – Love the Way You Lie (2/1)
2. Owl City – Fireflies (1/1)
3. Usher feat. will.i.am – OMG (1/1)
4. Helping Haiti – Everybody Hurts (1/-)
5. Katy Perry feat. Snoop Dogg – California Gurls (1/1)

WelcheMusic regularly covers Swedish songwriters’ success Stateside and today our national newspaper Expressen notes that five songs in the top 10 involves either Max Martin or RedOne. Neither one of them enjoys their first glimpse of success, but this is one of few weeks where their dominance is so great.
Expressen’s music editor Anders Nunstedt compares this phenomenon to five out of the top ten Hollywood’s box office hits being Swedish, a most unlikely event. WelcheMusic reveals that although Americans embrace the hits below, Swedes are more reluctant. Only one of the tracks has actually made it to the top ten – Katy Perry’s collaboration with Snoop Dogg (“California Gurls”). Taio Cruz’s “Dynamite” is on its way to break the top 20, and the track vaulted into No.1 in the UK only a few days ago.
The chart positions in brackets denotes current position on the Billboard Hot 100 as well as the peak position in Sweden.
- Taio Cruz – Dynamite (2/21)
- Katy Perry – Teenage Dream (3/33)
- Enrique Iglesias feat. Pitbull – I Like It (4/30)
- Usher feat. Pitbull – DJ Got Us Fallin’ in Love (5/31)
- Katy Perry feat. Snoop Dogg – California Gurls (8/8)
Max Martin has collaborated on four of the tracks above, with the exception of Enrique Iglesias “I Like It.”

Katy Perry returns to the chart with the title track of the upcoming album Teenage Dream. The set is slated for release this August and the first single, “California Gurls,” has already topped the European Hot 100 Singles chart, Billboard Hot 100 and UK Singles Chart. “Teenage Dream” is a reflection of Perry’s teenage love.
The track was produced by Max Martin, Dr. Luke and Benny Blanco. Martin and Dr. Luke also penned her debut hit “I Kissed a Girl” from 2008. Further to its release on Jul.23, “Teenage Dream” has already entered the Billboard Hot 100 at No.20 as this week’s Hot Shot Debut. “California Gurls” holds the No.2 position on the tally in its eleventh week. It also tops the Billboard Radio Songs and Pop Songs charts, while remaining the biggest song on UK radio. It reached a massive audience of 66.6m people last week, despite a 21% decline in audience reach. The song features rap by Snoop Dogg and is currently No.4 on the UK singles chart.
