Sade has the biggest selling album in Europe according to the new pan-European sales charts published by Billboard earlier this week. The Soldier of Love album tops the album charts in France, Hungary, the Czech Republic and the Belgian region of Wallony, while it loses the No.1 position in Italy and Sweden. German rock band Unheilig enters at No.6 with Grosse Freiheit and the German-Tunisian rapper Bushido bows at No.7.
Ke$ha’s “TiK ToK” remains on top of the singles chart in its 17th week, while Lady Gaga and Owl City hold steady at No.2 and No.3. The highest new entry comes from Jason Derulo’s, whose “In My Head” recently topped the UK singles chart. This week, a 22 year old rapper called Tinie Tempah knocks Jason Derulo off the top with his debut single “Pass Out.” The track got heavy support from BBC Radio 1 and Zane Lowe declared it the “Hottest Record in the World Today.” A debut album is expected to reach stores this July.
According to an interview in The Sun, the song “is about getting so out of it that you pass out.” In addition to the singles chart, Tinie Tempah also tops the UK r’n’b chart this week.
Jason Derulo drops to No.3 after a sole week on the top. He’s surpassed by Rihanna’s “Rude Boy” at No.2. Wiley returns to the top ten with “Never Be Your Woman,” featuring vocals singer Emeli Sandé. Wiley peaked at No.2 with “Wearing My Rolex” back in May 2008. That track was later sampled in Ironik’s song “I Wanna Be Your Man.”
Boyzone is also back with their 18th UK Top Hit “Gave It All Away,” with Ronan Keating and the late Stephen Gately on lead vocals. The song enters at No.9 and is written by singer Mika and produced by Ray Hedges. This is far better than the No.22 peak of “Better,” which was issued back in December 2008. “Gave It All Away” was able to bow atop of the Irish singles chart, knocking Jedward’s “Under Pressure” off the top. Boyzone made their debut in Ireland with “Working My Way Back to You.” It peaked at No.3 in native Ireland back in 1994 and was later released in French as “Te garder pres de moi” in 1997. It didn’t chart elsewhere. Their first UK No.1 came with The Osmonds’ hit “Love Me for a Reason.”
The singer-songwriter Ellie Goulding won a BRIT Award and sits firmly at No.4 on the singles chart with “Starry Eyed.” The track is included on her debut set Lights which debuts atop of the album chart this week. Lady Gaga’s The Fame falls 1-2 and spends its 60th week on the chart. WelcheMusic recently pointed out that the album turned 70 weeks in the US this week. Alicia Key’s The Element of Freedom remains at No.3, while the Glee Cast falls 2-4. Fueled by the success of “In My Head,” Jason Derulo bows at No.8 with his self-titled album.
With only one week left to the final of Melodifestivalen, we will soon know who will represent Sweden in the Eurovision Song Contest in Oslo this May. This week’s singles tally is, not unexpectedly, dominated by singles from the contest. Anna Bergendahl claims the top spot with the finalist entry “This Is My Life.”
The girl group Timoteij managed to oust Darin in the competition with “Kom,” and they also beat him on the singles tally. Timoteij trails Anna Bergendahl at No.2, while Darin enters at No.9 with “You’re Out of My Life.” Last week’s chart-topper Play falls back 1-5 with “Play,” while Lady Gaga remains at No.3 with “Bad Romance.” Brolle falls 2-7 with “Anything She Wants” and Donkeyboy’s “Ambitions” moves one notch to No.8.
UK No.1 Jason Derulo returns to the charts with “In My Head,” which enters at No.14. His “Whatcha Say” peaked at No.4 last fall. It’s also interesting to note that Timbaland and Katy Perry bows at No.58 with “If We Ever Meet Again.” It’s the second single to chart from Shock Value II, following the No.14 peak of “Morning After Dark.”
The Playtones remains at No.1 with Rock’n’Roll Dance Party while Sade remains at No.2 with Soldier of Love. The highest new entry comes from Sophie Zelmani, who is back on the charts after a two years hiatus with her ninth album I’m the Rain. Her biggest success to date is the 2008 set The Ocean and Me.

Florence + The Machine remains at No.2 with “You Got the Dirtee Love” with Dizzee Rascal, while Rihanna’s “Rude Boy” moves 6-3. The second highest new entry comes from Ellie Goulding, whose “Starry Eyed” manages to reach No.4 in its first week. Sugababes is the third new entry in the top 10 with “Wear My Kiss” at No.7.
Lady Gaga’s The Fame returns to No.1 on the album chart in its 59th week. Last week’s chart topper, Glee Cast, is pushed back to No.2 . The chart welcomes new top ten entries from Marina and the Diamonds, The Courteneers and Johnny Cash.
It looked like a cakewalk. Assemble the best artists in the world and record the re-make of “We Are the World” to benefit the Haiti victims. Céline Dion, Kanye West and Barbra Streisand was unable to un-seat Ke$ha’s “TikTok.” It’s even more amazing, considering this is the ninth week atop of the Billboard Hot 100.
“We Are the World 25: For Haiti” enters at No.2, pushing Black Eyed Peas 2-3 with “Imma Be.” Ke$ha is on the rise with her second single as well, “Blah Blah Blah” jumps 22-11 – her collaboration with 3!OH!3. Jason Derulo gets his second top 10 hit with “In My Head,” following the success of “Whatcha Say” last year. Iyaz is also back with the follow-up to “Replay,” as “Solo” debuts at No.43. Rihanna enters at No.64 with “Rude Boy” and Monica is back on the Hot 100 with “Everything to Me” at No.62.
Digital Spy notes that the Irish trio The Script reaches a new peak in the US with “Breakeven.” The track climbs twelve places to No.28.
Every now and then, tracks appear on the charts that are sticky and you end up singing them when and where you least expect it. “Replay” has become a worldwide hit in Australia, New Zealand and Canada. As with many debutants these days, Iyaz was discovered on MySpace by none other than Sean Kingston. He’s known for another sticky hit – “Beautiful Girl,” a hit back in May 2007. “Replay” was produced by the same man behind Jason Derulo’s “Whatcha Say” and Leona Lewis’ “Better in Time” – J.R. Rotem. His breakthrough came in 2001 when he co-wrote and produced the track “Fancy” on Destiny’s Child’s Survivor album. First of all, let’s just clear the fact that Strictly Come Dancing is called Let’s Dance in Sweden. It premiered back in 2006, when former Idol contestant Måns Zelmerlöw won the competition. Let’s Dance is back this Friday on Jan.8 and WelcheMusic is more excited about the new soundtrack than the format itself.

“Let’s Dance” has already reached No.5 on the Swedish iTunes chart ahead of Black Eyed Peas and Jason Derulo.
